Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Heroine movie review


Except for Traffic signal, most of Madhur Bhandarkar's movies deal with women and their scheming. Is it reality or his fantasies? Ok that's not the question of the hour. So, lets move on. What does Heroine offer that none of the earlier films of his did? Nothing and this one is more of a confused saga. Madhur seems to have been torn between his cliched reality and Bollywood commerciality.

But I recommend this movie to every movie lover only because of Kareena. The last 20 or 30 minutes of the movie shows how much Kareena is under-utilized in this industry. She did not give a brilliant performance. It was spine-chilling performance, if that can even be said. The expression of triumph when she gets the offer for Abbas Khan movie and the most F***ing brilliant expression of triumph when Annie becomes a super hit show the range of the Kareena. If only Madhur had established the actress Bindu thread properly, the climax would have been well justified. Nevertheless her realization scene towards the climax is also worth mentioning. She portrayed the fragility of Mahie so well that you hold your breath when she is about to freak out after being normal for sometime. Arjun, Randeep, Ranvir, Divya and Shahana get noteworthy roles but of them Randeep is time and again wasted in a role too inferior to his capabilities. Again Heroine is a Madhur's blunder and Kareena's wonder.
On a different note, how could he approach Aishwarya for this role? She could have never pulled off this role, at least not in this life time. No offense Ash fans, she is still the most beautiful woman in the world :)
