Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Sky is Pink - Review

Let me just say out the negatives of the movie before I move onto why I love this movie. The ending party video scene is very badly conceived. There was a need for such scene so that audience could break out into tears venting out all the emotion built up till then. But the way it was done is so not okay. Secondly the flow of the movie is so off. The movie switches timelines back and forth in such a haphazard way that audience may get disconnected from the proceedings sometimes.

Now coming to the soul of the movie. Yes it has a soul. Priyanka plays a very important role in bringing out the soul of the movie. She played it with perfection. I am out of adjectives to praise her. She was spot on as Moose. Farhan Akhtar got a role that needed more finesse in writing but he does it pretty well as the adorable Panda. Zaira did good in the pivotal role and her narration skills were good too. Rohit who played Giraffe is good too.

Sky is pink is based on real life story of a kid suffering from SCID and what her family went through to keep her alive. She dies in the end and it was evident from the trailers and she reveals it in first 5 minutes of the movie. So the audience know it will happen and they just wait. But during that wait time, the director Shonali Bose and her writing team brilliantly build up the emotion. The sorrow in the story is very intelligently and meticulously built scene after scene and it pays off quite well in the end.

They say end justifies the means and in Sky is pink the end product of making audience sob relentlessly justifies the means they chose especially in the climax party scene. So if you are in mood for crying pick this up and you won't regret.
