Venky Mama - Review

There are two shades of Venky. One is the likable one like in Nuvvu Naaku Nachav, Srinivasa Kalyanam, F2, Swarna Kamalam etc and then there is other side, lets just say like in Bobbili Raja, Kondapalli Raja, Jayam Manadera etc. F2 captured the former while Venky Mama tried the latter.

The main usp of Venky Mama is supposedly the chemistry of the real life mama-alludu. But the movie fails to exploit that. Mahesh and Venky in SVSC had more chemistry than Venky and Chay. Chay was a better actor in Raarandoi and in this he tries hard and it shows. His awkward body language also makes its cameos throughout first half. Venky tried his best to elevate the sentiment scenes but the writing totally fails him. Venky does his typical over the top comedy. Rashi and Payal did good in their roles and they have lengthy roles too. The sentiment scenes are there but there is no sentiment. It all looks superficial.

Thaman tried his best to elevate the scenes with his bgm but the content never connects. The songs are all good and shows that the money was well spent. The locations of Kashmir are authentic but the episodes are not conceived well. The editing of the movie is patchy with some wedding video transitions in some scenes. What Bobby did with Jai Lava Kusa he does the same here. Take a commercial script but execute it half bakedly. And in this the actors don’t help either unlike Jai Lava Kusa. The usual care taken by Suresh Babu for Venky movies is totally not there in this movie. That was my biggest disappointment.

Overall, Bobby’s half baked execution ruins a golden opportunity for Akkineni-Daggubati families and also the audience. The bond is there but the bonding and the execution is totally amiss.
