Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is...

Savyasachi - Review

What can you do when you get an idea to pit a guy with vanishing twin syndrome against an intelligent psycho. You should have taken a leaf or a half from the book of Manoj Night Shyamalan who made Unbreakable and now making Glass. After watching Savyasachi you wish that Chandoo had lifted few story points from Unbreakable. Instead Chandoo lifted a scene right out of a facebook/whatsapp forward in the beginning scene itself which is still okay but could not make proper use of the idea he got.

Movie is a complete let down if you are hoping to watch a good intelligent thriller with mind games between the hero and the villain. Savyasachi at best is a commercial comedy drama. Madhavan is given a role where he is expected to sound menacing. Either the less efficient dubbing or the lesser efficient writing, you keep hoping that Madhavan is not killed in the end. I mean this is the Madhavan who rocked the negative role in Mani Ratnam's Yuva. Over here he is just loud and hams away as a villain.

Chay as always is just okay. I have one suggestion for him. He needs to sit in the editing sessions to see how much trouble the editors are going through to cover his not so confident body language. But his dance is good in this one. Best of all the movie he has done so far. The other negative we notice in this one is when in a comedy scene the stars like Chiranjeevi, Mahesh, Nani etc still have a space for them on the screen. But with Chay it feels like he is sidelined. Nag too never had this problem. Nag's one of the plus points is his comedy timing starting with Hello Brother and Allari Alludu. Chay has to work on that sooner than later. Also Chay needs to start wondering why his movies are so good on paper and so average on screen.

Nidhi has a long way to go before she can become another Rakul or Rashi Khanna. She has a cake walk of a role and the director takes an easy way of giving her two different looks in the movie to show some variation. The comedy cast of the movie are a big plus. Vennela Kishore, Satya, Sudarshan and few more in cameo roles work the comedy well. The comedy scenes work but at times their placement seems so forced. Chandoo's strength is his comedy writing and he does not disappoint in that area but when it comes to thriller section, the finesse or the promise he has shown in Karthikeya is missing here.

Overall, Savyasachi is a commercial comedy movie disguised as an intelligent thriller. Don't fall for it.
