Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is...

Sarkar(Telugu/Tamil) Review

If in the last couple of years any state had witnessed a wide spectrum of social and political changes and issues, it is Tamilnadu. And as someone said, cinema reflects the society. That is the reason for the NOTA few days ago and now Sarkar. Murugadoss is an expert at handling socially relevant issues and at times giving feasible solutions. In Sarkar he attempts the same along with his other area of expertise, hero elevation.

Sarkar is a total treat for Vijay fans. He is in top form, doing brilliant fights, his usual uber cool dance moves, heave dose of punch dialogues, the swag and some nice emotional scenes. Keerthy can not expect a Mahanati all the time and I think she has come to terms with the ground reality and stuck to the typical commercial heroine role in this movie as well. Varalakshmi Sarathkumar did a very good role of a political heir with extreme negative shades. But she did not go overboard even a bit and yet conveyed the extreme villainy required. Rest of the cast are okay.

Of course production values are a huge plus. But music by A R Rahman is not up to the mark. You won't walk out of the theater humming any song. Hope it is a different case in Tamil. Murugadoss once again packages this movie in perfect commercial format with a good emphasis on voting laws and election drama. There is a considerable downhill in movie's graph and pace in second half which only picks up towards the end when Varalakshmi enters.

The movie touches the issues of Fishermen killings, how recent protests became violent because of politics, how people only do whatsapp forwards and move on to next issue, buying votes and section 49P of Election laws.

Overall, this is on the lines of Vijay-Murugadoss previous blockbusters, lets just say almost. Kathi is still the best followed by Thuppaki.
