Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. 2.0 - Review

The combo of Shankar and Rajini are back after Robo and the expectations are sky high. But 2.0 does not attempt to aim that high content wise. The movie is packaged with graphics and high voltage action. But story wise, it is a mix of Aparichithudu, Bharateeyudu and Robo.

Movie starts off with the phones flying away and how Vasee and his team solve the problem. The first half goes in a decent way even though it has shades of Aparichirutudu type of narration with people getting killed. The flashback of Akshay Kumar looks straight out of Bharateeyudu flashback. And the climax is a mix of Aparichitudu and Robo climax. Climax is on par with Robo climax but nothing more. Some scenes in first half look like a video game. Some scenes involving killing in first half and bird are top notch.

Rajini does his usual self in all the roles repeating the same Chitti, Chitti 2.0 and a new role Chinni 3.0. Amy is a robot and she could not even act like a robot. She is just there for the eye candy. Akshay looks under utilized. Rest of the cast are apt. The movie also suffers from single thread, single point agenda narration.

Overall, 2.0 is an okay watch for common audience and may be a fun watch for kids especially the action scenes.
