Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Pirates of the Caribbean - Dead men tell no tales

The film makers of world over are so into their franchises that they do not realize when their franchise is losing its popularity. One such group are the makers of Pirates of the Caribbean. I think this franchise really outlived its stay and it should conclude soon but may be not before another not so popular franchise, Transformers, which really needs another reboot. The only pulling factor of this one is Johnny Depp's impeccable portrayal of Jack the Sparrow.

That being said, Dead men tell no tales is not a bad movie. It is good in terms of delivering what's promised of this series. There is Johnny Depp doing what he does best. There is a good fantasy mixed story. There are reunions. And there is young Jack Sparrow and son of Will Turner. There is humor, the one this series is famous for, the numerous sexual innuendos in just proportions qualifying this series as PG-13. There is some Hollywood's finest CGI work. Brenton as Will's son is pretty good but Kaya as his love interest is not on par with this series's earlier actresses Penelope and Keira. Javier Bardem is alright.

Overall, if you are still into this series, why miss this. It is a good one after all.
