Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is

Magalir Mattum - Review

The old Magalir Mattum starring Revathi, Urvasi and Rohini was a great movie by Singeetham. It was a laugh riot with a good undertone of problems faced by women at work places. The new Magalir Mattum tries melodrama as a prop to play it to the likes of feminist masses. There is no denying that abortions of girl childs, women in the family not being respected, drunkard husbands, cursing mother-in-laws, sending daughter to hostel for the son to stay at home etc are still happening things but to use them just as a prop to appease the feminist audience is not just an injustice to cinema but also to women. The movie had a good setup to be Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara setup for three ladies in their 50s or 60s and the movie does not even tap into that side but instead focuses on melodrama. Jyothika's character is supposed to act as a good anchor for the script but the half-baked role makes Jo look like she is hamming away. It has it's moments, lets just say one moment. That too in the climax. Rest of the movie is just exploiting the sensibilities of women by playing the victim card too often and too forcibly.
