Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Sahasam swasaga saagipo

Gowtham Menon is a totally different breed of a director. There is no particular template for his movies. His innovative narrative skills and out of the box thinking are his main assets while a taut screenplay is an additional asset. With SSS movie he uses all of them well together. First half of the movie is a breezy romance with a road trip. Songs are all used up in first half and Rahman did a splendid job with this album. The interval scenes set the mood just right and what follows after is what you have been prepared for. There are lot of spoilers in the reviews I have read and it would be a great experience if you do not read those before watching the movie.

Naga Chaitanya has improved a lot in his dialogue delivery, styling and acting. He is the heart and soul of this movie and he carries this role pretty confidently. Manjima Mohan suited the role very well and picking her was also a master stroke by Gowtham. Few highlights of the movie are the Vellipomakey song placement, interval episode, his final counter to remaining villains and many more.This is a new genre for Telugu audience, an edge of the seat Romantic Thriller.

Watch it now to experience the brilliance of Gowtham Menon ably supported by Rahman and Naga Chaitanya.
