Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Battleship - Review

The most harmless hatred is the hatred towards aliens and it is highly salable too in movies. So when you try to make a movie inspired from the board game(not a video game for a change) Battleship, all you had to do is make the opponent an Alien, rope in the best CG team, show Americans and Japanese fighting on one side in Hawaii/Pearl Harbor, add few war veterans also into action, make a famous pop singer act in the movie and then kick some alien butt in high adrenaline pumping scenes. But what I don't get is why the cheesy and corny lines all over the movie. It even mocks itself when some character says "who talks like that?". And the first 30 minutes of the movie is compilation of all the action movie clichéd scenes. Irresponsible younger brother, pestering yet responsible elder brother, hero getting arrested, joining army, losing the soccer game because of him, higher officials ready to kick him out, his lover is daughter of an Admiral he reports to and oh yeah even his brother dies. But sit through all this clichés and what you have next is some kick ass action. For people who played Battleship board game ever, you will be surely delighted with the buoys scenes that resemble the game. Movie seems to be way too much light hearted that the hero is all laughing and having fun even after losing his own brother, of course he got the girl by then. What is Liam Neeson doing here?  Okay lets not get into the sentiments or logics or corny lines, movie has some good action sequences once action starts which is almost 30 minutes into the movie. At that time, sit back and enjoy.
