Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Rogue - Movie Review

Source: DVD Rental

Rogue promised to be a straight to the point action thriller with a nice twist, from the trailers and it was lead by Megan Fox. And to say the least, the movie works mostly.

First let me cover what does not work. The main eyesore in the movie is the CGI work on the Lion. It is plain bad. A little bit more spent on that front could have done wonders to the already air-tight proceedings. Also the movie had to right setup and also runtime to build the characters of Megan and the Lioness to milk the parallels between the both. The writing fails in that aspect.

Now the things that work for the movie is that it is a story of bunch of Marines on contract to save a girl in African Jungle where a Lioness is on the loose and is super pissed off. Do not worry it is not a spoiler. That is what the trailer reveals too. But the makers just stick to that for entire 100 mins of the movie. There is never a low or dull point. For action lovers, there is enough action, the blasts, the bullets flying and some awesome kills. There is lot of gore and violence. The proceedings are apt with few jump scares here and there. Megan Fox gets a good role and she shoulders it well. Rest of the supporting cast is alright.

Overall, Rogue is a pretty good watch for action lovers, if they can overlook the bad cgi part.
