Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is

Devi(Short film 2020) - Review

*Spoiler Alert*

I had to do this. I was hurting inside after watching this short film. There was unsurmountable pain piling up year after year rape after rape in India and the convicted rapists still not executed and some rapists hiding behind their political parties. This video made that pain so unbearable to keep it contained that I had to vent it out in my writing. Below is not my review. It is just my outburst on the things I noticed in this multi-layered social commentary on rapes in India.

In Devi, the first thing that hurt me real hard the second time I watched is the deaf mute girl watching TV news about rapes. Why is she watching it? She is deaf and mute. She will never react to it because those rape victims stories will never reach her deaf ears and she being a mute can never and will never speak up or speak against rapes. SHE IS US. ALL OF US who watch rape news as a sitcom or reality show, read rape articles as mystery novels and in two days move on to the next sitcom rape.

Yes in two days we will move on always and that is why the reporter on TV is surprised that even after two days the whole country is talking about it. Two days people, two days. Two daily status calls, two night sleeps, 6 meals, two binge watching sessions and the girl that was raped is erased from history. Great attention span of this generation. Let me tell you something. Remember Nirbhaya rapists, the ones who you were outraged against for the whole two full days around 8 years ago I mean 2641 days ago, they are still alive. Nirbhaya died, both physically and even in our memories. Her rapists, not so much.

The ending twist was brilliant right? If you are like me, you would have guessed it before hand. That's called genius thinking. We are well-equipped with the knowledge that little girls can also be raped and so we could guess the ending perfectly. Pat on your back for that knowledge, it is SO USEFUL.

Why the hell is this writer so angry on us? It is not like we are rapists. We condemn rape. Each and every one of them. Yes we all have condemned rapes from last 8 years every time it happened and shared on facebook but nothing is changing in our democratic country. We as common people are helpless in a people enabling democracy while our elected public servants shit with their mouths when they say "boys will be boys" or "the girls should be fully covered" or "girls should stay home after dark" or "she is from a lower jaathi to even waste time talking about her". None of the above lines are my creation. They are the exact words spoken by some of the disgusting scum of our beloved country whom we have elected. But still neither the writer of this article nor the Devi makers have any right to be angry on us. Right?

In Devi, the believer in god, the usual family type lady is raped, the lady in burqa is raped, the drunk lady showing her thighs is raped, the working class lady is raped, a student is raped, the older women are raped, the deaf mute one too, the sleeping lady and if you have missed there are ladies all the way at the back with no voice or face. may be symbolizing the rapes that we cared less or totally ignored.

Devi paints a stark reflection of current state of safety for females of all age groups in India. It should help us ask the question, what can we do or how can we change this? My outburst(which I think is almost calming down now) will also be short lived and this article will help me move on very easily and in guilt-free way. Thank you for reading through this and see you next time when the next girl is raped in India, oh wait that would be too soon..so let's make it once every 100 girls are raped.
