Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Petta - Review

I always felt Karthik Subbaraj was a great film maker. Iraivi proved it and Mercury confirmed it but Petta showed he is also human. Petta showed that he too can get carried away and that is a huge disappointment.

Sethupathi has a weird body language. Based on it you can say if he is sold on the movie script or not within his first two scenes. In Petta he looked so uncomfortable and so lost and that should hint us where the movie was heading in second half.

Nawazuddin is one of the finest actors of India but here he is reduced to a coward version of the Ghaitonde.

It looked refreshing to see Simran on screen and that too next to Rajni. Trisha was more like a background actor than an actual role in the movie. Bobby Simha did good and Sasi Kumar is wasted.

Rajni looked his best in recent times. His energy levels are back and he looked so much stylish and at ease with the role when compared to previous ones. He also seemed to enjoy the role very much. His mannerisms and his styles are all back in the movie.

Now coming to the script, it is a rehash of many Rajni movies and a bad one at that. The second half which was publicized as edge of the seat thriller with so many twists is a big letdown. That's where the movie goes down totally wasting all the A-listed actors.

Overall Petta is completely Rajnified movie but very messy one at that.
