Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Mr. Majnu - Review

After watching three movies of Akhil, as a Telugu cinema audience, a basic question came to my mind. Why do we watch a movie? Based on my limited knowledge and even lesser comprehending abilities my answer would be either to watch a good story unfold on screen or if there is a star actor in the movie then to witness the starry aura unfold on screen along with a decent story around it or to witness a sheer brilliance of good story telling of a simple known story.

Now if we have to pose a similar question, why one should watch Akhil's movie? The answer would be either first one or the last one but definitely not the second one.  Akhil may have the makings of a star but he isn't one yet. So weaving a story around his stardom is too early. Mr.Majnu tries to get that right by giving him a boy next door role in second half. In first half though, movie goes over board at times in elevating him as a playboy, all girls are falling for or a dutiful son of the family seeking sympathy.

Movie suffers majorly from forced love story, forced comedy, forced family emotions and roles lacking conviction. Tholiprema had similar forced scenes and inconsistent characterizations but it also had 5 or 6 brilliant scenes like Raashi proposing, Raashi lecturing Naresh, Varun confronting seniors etc. Mr. Majnu does not have any of those. Even the fights in the movie are weak. In songs, we hardly see Nidhi as the main focus stays on Akhil and his dances. Movie's main plus points are music by Thaman and also that movie looks beautiful through out. Thanks to good looking actors(The whole cast), production values and camera work.

In conclusion, Akhil should stop looking for a launch or a re-launch movie but instead look for a good story based movie. Mr. Majnu is definitely not that.
