Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani - Review

Ayan Mukherjee disappoints but Karan Johar steps in and makes it one of his own. This movie lacks Wake up sid's brilliance but has loads of Karan Johar's Romantic extravagance. But then it's not a bad thing and so it helps the movie. Wake up sid was so subtle with very few cheesy romantic lines, no silly party games, no dance masti parties, no prom queen type girls etc. YJHD has all of this and also Zoya's Tomatino festivalish Holi scene and song. But as a whole this works a nice commercial package which disappoints only when it mentions that it is directed by Ayan. As always Ranbir is brilliant and this role is a cake walk for him. Deepika also as always  in such rom-coms was good. Kalki and Siddharth Roy Kapur were mere props of the story and were wasted. Songs are huge plus just like any Karan Johar movie. "Mujhe tumse pyar ho jaayegaa....<Pause>....phir se. Aur tumko nahin hoga...<pause again>...phir se". So there you go folks, you decide. For me this is a little bit toned down Karan Johar film and over the top Ayan Mukherjee film. So watch it as former and you will like it. Watch it as latter Ranbir and Deepika would still make sure you like it.
