Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Kai Po Che - Review

It is not an easy task to follow up after a super hit debut movie and just like many, Abhishek Kapoor, after Rock On, falters. But the good thing about it is, it is not that bad. It is a very wafer thin story with so many elements like friendship, love, earthquakes, business, cricket and communalism threw into it. It is more a movie on cricket and communalism than friendship. There are only two emotional highs one being the climax scene of Omi meeting Ishaan's sister and other being the India Vs Australia test where Laxman and Dravid proved everyone wrong. There are numerous scenes on cricket and every Indian would love those. It is sad to see Abhishek succumb to commerciality and use scenes like DCH Goa scene, RDB shirtless scene etc. There are some been there seen that kind of scenes, thanks to too many buddy movies in Bollywood these days. All the actors did a decent job. Music is pleasant. Movie is slow in pace at times and picks up at times, thanks to the numerous scenes on Cricket. Setting in Gujarat, a political party named "Bharatiya Janahith Party", hero called as Pandit ji ki beta and bringing in Muslim community had me anticipating Godhra incident and follow up violence. So it comes as no surprise. Over all a decent attempt but no ground breaking or trend setting stuff.
