Class of 83 - Movie Review
Finally, after the disappointments of Bard of Blood and Betaal, Red Chillies tries to revive its brand name with Class of 83.
Right from the word go, Class of 83 hits the right notes with the viewers. It makes you sit up and notice the new raw talent unfolding on the screen. Writing wise, along with the look and feel, I would rate this on par with Narcos series. But the actors take it to the next level.
First of all, when did the "Uber cool" Bobby Deol become so old and so good at acting. He was the anchor of the proceedings. When things go haywire in the proceedings for the youngsters the audience trust that his character will put back things in order. And the young actors who played the cops. They are impeccable. There were times when I felt so sure that I have seen them somewhere before. They acted like seasoned actors. They are the main asset of the movie and we should look forward to seeing them more.
Class of 83 is a been there and done that kind of genre for Bollywood that always dealt with mafia movies, encounter specialists etc. But it scores high on giving it its own twist. Without revealing much, let me just say you will be pleasantly shocked at how the story unfolds. But the movie has its lows. The flow is a bit patchy. Scenes end abruptly. Emotions rise high and in next scene they are at different level. Climax is too simple and leaves you asking for more. Background score is so subtle and apt. Camerawork is top notch. Art, Lighting and coloring of the movie are other major assets. It pulls you into the 80s so easily. There are scenes where they show real 80s footage and then the footage shot for the movie. Audience will not be able to spot the difference too.
Overall, Class of 83, is a new twist to the age old cop-mafia crime dramas and a pretty good one at that.
