Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Mary Poppins Returns - Review

"So you have forgotten what it's like."
"To hold a balloon?"
"To be a child."

That dialogue, besides bringing a glowing smile on every child stuck inside a grownup's body, also sums up the story of Mary Poppins and this movie.

Before you hit the play button, leave all your practicality aside and be ready to step into this world, because in our grown up world "if it can't make sense, it can't be true" but in Mary Poppins world, "Everything is possible, even the impossible."

The movie is full of wordplays, so much so that this movie seems made for grownups lost in grownup world than for kids who are still in their magical world. Mary Poppins is a wakeup call to rise into that dream we have lost in pursuit of becoming the all knowing adults we are now.

Of course, it goes without saying Emily Blunt is a delight in the role. She gets the right amounts of magic, right amounts of grace, right amounts of mischief and right amounts of authority to the role of Mary Poppins. But the movie is not about her. It is around her. So the supporting cast make up most of the movie and that works too except the lighting song scene where it looks more like Mary Poppins had become part of the background. I, personally, would have liked her to lead that scene too. Oh yeah this is a musical and a very good one. I, for one, am not a musical fan but loved this one because of the context of the movie. A fairy tale kind of movie with old London as backdrop can hardly go wrong.

If you want to wake up that inner child in you and willing to leave your obsessive compulsion for practicality then pick up this movie and watch it. Re-believe in miracles and magic.
