Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is

Tom Cruise's The Mummy - Review

For the uninitiated, Tom Cruise's The Mummy is not just a revival of the old Mummy series, it is also the first installment of Universal Studios foray into The Dark Universe on the lines Marvel's Avengers and DC Comics Justice League etc but with darker forces. The other characters who will be part of this universe are Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Invisible man, The hunchback of Notre Dame and Dracula too. And the other stars signed for this universe are Javier Bardem, Angelina Jolie and none other than Johnny Depp along with Tom Cruise and Russell Crowe. Now let that awe of an expression settle down.

Having said all that, I am a little sorry to say The Mummy is not up for the challenge. It does not let you get glued to this universe. There are some contradicting hurdles it had to cross. It will have obvious comparisons with its previous installment starring Brendan Fraser which was liked for its humor. But it could not use the same tone when setting a stage for the Dark Universe. so it ends up being too subtle to be a dark movie and too dark for a movie with humor. The changes in the tone of the movie from dark theme to humor theme or vice versa are quite awkward at times.

But what keeps you entertained are obviously Tom Cruise's screen persona and the anticipation of what's going to unfold in future parts. So watch it for those two things and it is not a boring watch either. It just is not either a proper popcorn flick like Marvels or a serious action drama like the DC Comics.
