Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Dabangg 2 - Review

What's a better way to start the review year than with a Salman bhai movie review! Dabangg is not a movie, it is a new genre, at least for me. Take all the commercial elements front benchers enjoy,  glorify them with no limits and shove it in the face in urban style. Add to it the dusty premises, the Zorroish BGM and a Dabanng star. But there is a thin line separating this with a spoof and/or comedy. While Dabanng was hugely successful Dabanng 2 steps and even crosses that line few times, of course rather harmlessly. But what harms the movie is weak script and scene to scene screenplay copy of first part. Even the songs sound exactly like their counter parts in the first and this time they are rather out of place. Arbaaz has a long way to go as a director but with Salman's star power alone, he scored a blockbuster. Dabanng 2 is a boring rehash of Dabanng whereas it should have been an extension of the genre.

On  a different note, I have seen Akshay Kumar go this route of continuous list of silly blockbuster movies until he hit his all time low and yet to bounce back completely. Salman is on the same track now from his Bodyguard and I hope he realizes it soon. Of course bouncing back is not a new thing for Salman. Same is the case with SRK and Ajay Devgnnnnnn. Hope all the 4 come to the senses and make movies that are truly blockbuster worthy.
