Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Darbar - Movie Review

Hero Elevation is an art in itself for film makers. And the easiest way to achieve it is with a strong fight sequence. But a fight sequence alone can not achieve it. It would need a proper back story, a strong villain and a very good placement.

Darbar lacks all of that. It assumes having Thalaivar Rajinikanth will substitute for all of it. But the bad news is no it does not. Darbar is a very old formula cop story with some jumbled up screenplay and Rajini can not save it at least in Telugu.

Rajini looks good in the look. But his body language is that of an old guy and so it does not help. In Kaala and Kabali he played his age and also did stunts of his age. So it did not look odd. Whereas in Darbar it does. I wish the future makers of Rajini movies keep that in mind and write a good script for him and then sprinkle it with Rajinism than just filling a wafer thin story line with Rajini.

Murugadoss, with Sarkar post Spyder proved that he still has it in him. With Darbar he makes us doubt if Spyder was not one off. The climax of Darbar is a huge let down. Sunil Shetty is wasted. Nayan is wasted. Nivetha got a decent role and in couple of scenes she proves her acting prowess once again.

Darbar needed a Thupakki style narration and it misses that totally. In my humble opinion, K S Ravikumar could have made a better cop movie with Rajini than Darbar.
