Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. The Family Man (Amazon Web Series) - Season 1 - Review

Amazon Prime came up with a new web series called The Family Man with a tagline, Middle Class Guy. World Class Spy. That sums the series pretty well.

Half of the job is done for a film maker when she/he gets their cast right. Raj and DK got it perfect. Manoj Bajpai, Sharib Hashmi, Priyamani, Neeraj Madhav, Kishore Kumar, Shreya and the kids were all spot on. They add to the delight of watching a world class spy thriller.

Raj and DK always had a different edge to their humor and for some reason that did not go well with the traditional Bollywood cinema. But one of the highlights of this web series is their style of humor, the dry, sarcastic and at times hard hitting humor. Besides the humor, the writers in Raj & DK had a gold mine of a script. They had to have one because otherwise it would not have been an easy task to pull off just another spy thriller in the world of web series. They were very well aware of this limitation and so added their own touch to it. For example, every episode ends on a note "Inspired by real news/events" immediately followed by news clippings of the same incidents that happened in the previous episodes.

Manoj Bajpai is an actor ahead of his times and could easily be called the predecessor for Nawazuddin, KK, Irfan etc and in Family Man, he proves why he is still one of the best. He is a sight of total joy in this one. He looks so effortless and comes across as not even trying but makes the impact right on. Priyamani got a very good role and she proves her mettle. Rest of the cast were equally brilliant.

Though a spy thriller, the web series feels so breezy, thanks to the right balance between the humor, thriller and family threads and sprinkled carefully with subtle commentary on current political scene in India.
