Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is...

Oh Baby - Review

Nandini Reddy is a very conscious director, as in she would never get carried away in the craft of film making. In any of her movies, she never comes across as rushing or lacking clarity. She etches each scene with utmost care. May be that is the reason she only had 4 movies in 8 years. With Oh Baby, one can say she finally arrived.

Oh Baby, for beginners, is a remake of a Korean movie Miss Granny. But this feels like a movie tailor made for Samantha. One can say that if anyone was best for the role, it would be Samantha. Picking her for the part was the first win for the movie. She did her role almost perfect. She goes over board in few scenes but the genre is very forgiving and so she stays afloat. In the last scene with Rao Ramesh she just nails it. Rajendra Prasad and Lakshmi were the next wins. Both just showed how experience can elevate a role. Rest of the cast beautifully gelled with the movie.

The combination of Lakshmi Bhoopal(Dialogue writer) and Chinmayi(Dubbing for Samantha) is the next huge win. You cannot draw a fine line and say this is where Samantha dominated the scene and this is where Chinmayi took off. They both together did perfect justice to the proceedings and Chinmayi did just brilliant with the slang and the tone of an old lady stuck in young Samantha.

Mickey J Meyer did good with the background score but he disappoints with the two songs that are performed on stage, especially the last song. That is one part where Samantha also failed. She looked so out of place while performing. It looked like a song dubbed from different language.

But what I said above is all peripheral for this movie. One thing people need to know is that there is enough emotion in the movie that is depicted in an entertaining way. The movie has a solid script that could not go wrong and it did not go wrong too. So go watch it.
