Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Luka Chuppi - Movie Review

More often than not when Bollywood looks into its roots, it finds beautiful stories. There is a parallel stream of Bollywood that is busy churning out such beautiful stories like Bareily ki barfi, Badhai Ho, Dum Lagake aisha, Stree etc. Now you can confidently add Luka Chuppi to that list.

Luka Chuppi deals with a concept kind of alien to remote India, Live-in Relations. But the writers and the director deal with it in a very rooted and humorous way. The movie has a very wafer thin storyline but the length of the movie never reminds you of it. Thanks to the very well written humor. Not as a whole but there are few scenes where you will be reminded of the legend Hrishikesh Mukherjee and his classics. And that is a huge achievement for Luka Chuppi. The movie hardly has any dull moments.

Kriti Sanon, slowly but steadily is picking the right scripts without giving into the mainstream Bollywood temptation and the success of Luka Chuppi should confirm to her that she is on the right path. She did very good in a role that may have been written with her in mind. Karthik Aryan is a natural. He looked effortless in the role and became a major asset to the movie. Aparshakti Khurana is good in the friend's role. His role was very effectively used to drive home few statements that are relevant to current political weather in India. His presence in some scenes like phere scene and climax feels so nice. Pankaj Tripati  is outright hilarious. Vinay Pathak plays a serious role that is laugh worthy.

Overall, Hrishikesh Mukherjee would be happy with these kind of cinema in Bollywood.
