Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. NGK (Telugu) - Review

NGK is the story of a bottom tier party worker's growth up the chain. It is as simple as that but the narration style and the numerous side tracks added to it make it anything but simple.

Selva Raghavan has cult following in Telugu and Tamil. NGK's biggest publicity point was NGK being Surya and Selva's combo. But we can safely say that Selva failed completely. Surya blindly believed in the role and gave his best, at times going over board too, in a very inconsistent role. Sai Pallavi is given a role of psychotic wife with excessive possessiveness. She does over act too in this one. Rakul is the only one in the movie who gives a very controlled and effective performance in a small role. The movie totally belongs to Surya and he tries his best to save the movie but fails.

I am tempted to call this Selva's worst yet but then I am immediately reminded of Varna/Irandaam Ulagam. So I would call this Selva's second worst, at least for the Telugu audience. The movie has lot of problems with the narration. In one word, it's haphazard. But what's even more worrying is how movie shifts gears between political drama and triangle love story sometimes. The only good thing about the movie is Surya's screen presence, not even his acting.

Overall, NGK is not the hit Surya and his fans were desperately waiting for, not even remotely close.
