Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Lucifer(Malayalam) - Movie Review

Largo Winch, the french movie, seems to be the remake of the season. First it was unsuccessfully tried in Telugu(Agnyathavaasi) and now in Malayalam. And in Malayalam we can say it works.

Prithvi Raj, the actor who is directing a Mohanlal starrer, I should say, gave a perfect commercial cinema for Mohanlal, the star. Largo Winch is setup in the business world but Prithvi Raj and his team very comfortably changed it to the world of politics.

The movie's first 15 minutes is a mess introducing too many characters at an uneasy pace and ineffective writing. But it succeeds in making a perfect intro scene for Mohanlal. It would have been a huge treat for his fans. Once he is introduced the movie has a lot going in its favor. But for the fans of Mohan Lal the actor this would be disappointment because all he does in this movie is walk in slow motion shots and dole out one liner dialogues and nothing more. Vivek Oberoi proves his worth in the negative role. He could very easily bring that menace on his face very unlike his dad who could not make audience look beyond his suave debonair villain look. Tovino is impeccable in his small yet very effective role. He is so brilliant that he gives the needed boost to Mohanlal's role. Manju Warrier did good in her role too. Prithvi Raj plays a cameo and he is good. His direction is perfect though. The back ground score of the movie is a major plus.

What I really appreciate in the movie is how the parallels between the Largo Winch - The Heir Apparent, Lucifer - a fallen angel and the intelligent plotting heir to a fallen politician are drawn .That is the stuff for the subtext seeking moviegoers. The climax scene with private jet though looks straight out of Shahrukh's Don climax.

Overall, Lucifer is Mohanlal's attempt at having his own KGF and he succeeds partially.
