Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Spyder - Review

Mahesh is one actor who always tried to experiment and take Telugu cinema to next level at the cost of his super stardom. Sometimes audience let him down and some times the directors. Unfortunately, this time Murugadoss let him down.

Spyder is a Telugu cinema equivalent of Batman vs Joker story. A self equipped vigilante pitted against the aimless sadistic antagonist. It is a very good thought but execution mattered the most to justify a character like Joker. Murugadoss falters in execution. He tries to save the movie by infusing his thriller styled episodes in second half. But besides those scenes everything else fails to make any mark.

SJ Surya is the apt for the role. He looked outright dangerous as expected from the role. Mahesh looked a bit old in close up shots but role wise it was a cake walk for him. Rakul is wasted. Priyadarshi as Mahesh's friend is good. Coming to music, bgm for Surya is chilling. Rest of the music is mediocre including the songs. One can not believe that the camera work is done by Santosh Sivan. This is way below his usual standard.

Coming to Murugadoss, he failed in writing an interesting narration for the good concept. He very loosely based the movie on Minority report, Dark Knight, a mask inspired by scare crow etc. But as a whole the movie fails to register what was intended. Except for Surya's introduction at interval and ladies episode in second half, every thing else looked so half baked.

Over all a good concept that missed efficient and adept execution.
