Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is...

Let me start by saying that I have not seen any of the short films by vinnothna geetha. So for me Pelli choopulu was a movie made by all fresh faces including director and music director. I can say that this meets all the expectations of how a fresh team should bring freshness in the making. Barring few unnoticeable cliches, the movie is totally fresh. I am impressed with the second half scene in coffee shop and climax radio interview. One is the confrontation scene and other the closure and they both have been dealt in a very fresh way. Coming to the actors, Vijay proves that his act scoring more marks than Nani in Yevade Subramyam was not a fluke. Few right scripts and he can make it big. Ritu is perfect for the role. He character of a strong independent woman out to prove something is not an easy one to portray. More often than not the actors have hammed away in such roles. But she performs exactly to the point. The drunkard friend of the hero is outright hilarious but with intelligent comedy. Rest of tha actors did good in their roles.

Music by Vivek Sagar is a major highlight. I have one problem with cinematography though. The way the food is shown is not upto the mark, may be because of the low  budget. One and only short falling in the movie is that for a movie on food and food trucks, the romance with the food is majorly sidelined. A little bit more focus on food could not have harmed the movie because hardly anyone in the Telugu states is not a foodie.

In short this movie is a perfect mix of fun, romance, family drama, emotions and music. Tharun Bhascker is here to stay if he can maintain the same freshness in his future movies.

Nitpicking note: The basic plot line and hero and heroine characterizations seems similar to Band Baaja Baarat and there seems to be a slight reference of the movie name in one of the scenes.
