Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is

Kabali - Review

Irrespective of the craze or the hysteria surrounding a star or his movie, on the judgement day when the cards are down, one needs to call an ace an ace, a spade a spade and a wrong show a wrong show. And alas, Kabali is that wrong show.

If you have seen the director Pa Ranjith's Madras, you would know that he is talented but his strong points are not dialogues or hero elevation or dealing with a social message. Madras is a good movie because of the crime drama and taut screenplay.

While in Kabali he tries his hands mainly at dialogues, social message and obviously hero elevation. He scored just fine in hero elevation. Dialogues are very weak and that combined with unwanted emotional scenes and superficial family drama mar the movie proceedings. Only saving grace are the last 10 minutes of the first half and preclimax action scenes.

Coming to the actors, Rajani played his age very gracefully. Radhika Apte is wasted in a single expression role. The main show stealer of the movie is Dhansika. Her makeover and body language are perfect. Rest of the cast are the usual Pa Ranjith actors who didn't get any significant roles.

Music too is a letdown except for the Neruppu daa/Nippu raa soundtrack. Screenplay is very slow in pace and direction is flawed in majority of the scenes.

Overall it is a strictly average Rajani movie that tests your patience in many scenes and then there are some decent scenes too but few and far between.
