Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is...

Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!

Dibakar Banerjee(DB) is different. He is bold in his film making. He chooses different genre each time. His taking is totally non-bollywoodish. So Detective Byomkesh Bakshy is supposed to be all that and it is. But narration is what takes the beating. Blame it on simple twists or inept writing but one have to agree that the screenplay is very shaky. The continuation of scenes is also very patchy. But each scene in itself is a gem. Thanks to the top notch direction by DB, again very non-bollywoodish. The Background music sounded so cool in trailer but in the movie it sounds very inconsistent and its usage comes across as very naïve. Sushant was impeccable in the role and so are the rest of the cast. The sense of humor of DB is quite evident in few scenes. His attention to detail of pre-independence era Calcutta is appreciable. Especially in one of the first scenes where Bakshy is traveling in a tram and you can see Calcutta behind him through the tram’s window. Again his direction was spotless and I fell in love with it once again but a much better screenplay could have made this a brilliant master piece.  For now it ends up as a slow paced good one time watch movie.
