Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Yevade Subramanyam - Review

When I first read the review of movie Anand, my interest on the movie half died as I did not find anything new or interesting with the story of a girl whose marriage with a guy gets cancelled and then she falls in love again. But after I watched the movie I was pleasantly surprised. That director proved what a brilliant direction can do to an otherwise cliched subject. So when his assistant comes up with another cliched subject in form of Yevade Subramanyam I was bound to assume he might have learned his tricks from his guru Sekhar Kammula too. But Nag Ashwin seems to have missed some basic lessons. It is a routine script to start with. Good narration and brilliant dialogues could have made the movie a pretty good one almost on the lines of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. But instead audience are greeted by melodramatic, weak and cliched dialogues. Added to that is the dragged narration. Yes there are pretty good performances by people playing Rishi and Anandi. But for Nani, it was just another Pilla Zamindar minus the brilliant dialogues. So his role becomes less effective. Songs, Photography and Himalayas beauty are major assets for this movie. Establishing that hero is afraid of water and later him jumping in water, taking ashthikalu to a destination, etc so many things are cliched. All dialogues with Krishnam Raju, Nazar and Shavikaru Janaki are also cliched. Only Rishi gets to say some nice lines and that is short lived too. Overall it is a movie that is not path breaking but just a cliched way of dealing a cliched subject of how free spirited humans should be.
