Taxi Driver was around 40 years ago and the same director made Wolf of Wall Street. He was ahead of the game back then and he is ahead of the game even now. He is Martin Scorsese. Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Cape Fear, Good Fellas, Casino, The last temptation of Christ, Gangs of New York, The Departed, The Aviator and now Wolf of Wall Street, he should be by far the only Hollywood director with so many classics to his credit and he still has it in him to make more. Oh, you can add the much appreciated Hugo if you want but I personally did not like the movie. We all know that Leonardo DiCaprio is the this generation Martin Scorsese's Robert De Niro and we all accept that he lives up well to fit into the big man's shoes. Leo undoubtedly is the soul and shoulder of this movie. But unlike some Leo movies, in this movie the director had totally dominated Leo. For example, in the scene where Jordan decides to quit, starts off the speech by talking about one of the first 20 and oh man how the scene changes later. Brilliantly Awesome!!! There are so many such scenes in the movie. Not to forget the adrenaline rush the movie gives you in the first one hour. It is as if you too are high on Jordan's favorite drug, Money. Then the scene in which Leo and Jonah get high on Lemmons. The way the scene shifts from high urgency scene to slowed down crawling of Leo is the director's brilliant way of teasing the audience and make their hearts pound faster. I can go on and on and on about how brilliant Martin Scorsese "still" is but I will stop here and let you watch the movie and decide. No, this is not a family friendly movie and it is worse/more fun than Hangover depending on what your tastes are. My ending thought after watching the movie was that if Martin Scorsese was trying to find his Joe Pesci in Jonah Hill? Jonah was good but Joe Pesci was from an altogether different league. Of course there are some drags here and there in the 3 hour long movie but I should say if you realized the length only after watching the movie completely then it is a pretty huge achievement for a 3 hour Hollywood movie.
My conclusion about the movie is that Departed was also racy and it was a crime thriller but WOWS is a biopic and even more racier than Departed. And I can bet you that it can not get any better.
