Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Jack Reacher

"Why Tom Cruise?" is the most disturbing question you will have after watching this movie. First few scenes of the movie and I am immediately taken back to his classic "A few good men", thanks to the misleading characters of DA, investigators, conspiracies etc. Once the mystery is solved what follows is a boring action drama with impact-less action. It should have been easily any small actor's movie as the character template of Jack Reacher does not match up to or need the persona of Tom Cruise. I cannot even assume he tried to play it to the jury this time as the movie is no where nearly able to get nominated. Some one who hatched the plan of such killing, somehow does blunder over blunder and in end kidnap the heroine to win the case. Somehow it does not add up that well. What I really appreciate in this movie are the novel ways of shot making like in the scenes of shooting or killing the lady in night etc. Also the pacing of the movie, though slow, is very captivating with minimal background score and silent ambiance. Watch it for Tom Cruise and with minimal expectations.
