Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Underworld:Awakening - Movie review


Many many many years down the line movie goers would remember Mafia theme by God Father, Violent thrillers by Saw, American comedy by American Pie and the Vampire and Werewolf genre by, no not by Twilight please, but by Underworld series. Such is the standard of that movie, it defined or shall I say redefined the genre. So the expectations were sky high when the latest entrant released that too with Kate leading the cast after a break.

Awakening should be a wake up call for its makers, not because it is totally bad. It is still a fast paced action movie but it falls under Resident Evil/Zombie movie genre than "The Underworld" genre. There is so much violence and gore but then it was expected.

As always Kate was brilliant in action sequences but she looked a bit old though. Also there are obvious hints of a sequel in this like Michael escaping, talk about the wife of the scientist who chose to remain human etc. So hopefully they will make the next one stand up among the rest of the movies in the series.

What I totally hated about this movie is the way Lycans were depicted. Lycans deserved more respect and especially after "Rise of the Lycans". They were given only as much role as any zombie gang in a zombie movie.

Overall it is a well made movie that does not deserve to use the "Underworld" franchise name.
