Mimi - Movie Review
For beginners, Mimi is a remake of a Marathi National award winner "Mala Aai Vhhaychy!". It was also remade into Telugu as Welcome Obama by the legend Singeetham Srinivasa Rao. Mimi is bollywood version of that movie.
The first scene of the movie where a surrogate mother broker is on call with American couple is very hard hitting. It shows lot of pregnant women while ending the shot on the orphaned kids. But for a movie that starts off so honest, Mimi does try to deviate and add humor to it.
Thanks to the able hands of Pankaj Tripathi, Mimi manages well. Pankaj is the star of the movie. He carries off even the half baked jokes so confidently. Kriti shines again in yet another role of a girl from small town, after Bareily ki Barfi. Rest of the cast all are good. Movie's pace is iffy. It is not consistent. At times, things move pretty fast and then the movie comes to a complete halt.
The biggest drawback of the movie, forgive my blasphemy, is A R Rahman. The music does not sit well with the setting of the movie. It just acts a reminder that Rahman the great had composed the music. Rahman had earlier composed music for small movies like Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na, Ada...a way of life, Ranjhnaa etc but his music never felt out of place. This was a glaring exception.
Overall, Mimi is watchable because of the cast that includes Pankaj and Kriti.
