Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is

Naa Peru Surya - Review

Allu Arjun is known for trying different kind of scripts and roles. Naa peru surya is no different. It is a very different story and totally different role than what Bunny had done till date. Unfortunately, that does not fetch him or the makers any brownie points. Because the end product is just a damp squib. The only reason for that I can think of is lack of home work on parts of Bunny and Vakkantham Vamsi, the director.

Surya is not an easy role for Bunny to perform. That interval episode attitude in Iddarammayiltho can not be the only thing used to bring Surya's character to life. Half way through the movie, I was wondering what would have happened if Sandeep Vanga made Arjun Reddy with Allu Arjun. Director Vakkantham Vamsi also failed miserably on working out the details of Psychiatric counseling, Army workings and even for that matter the most simple emotion called Patriotism on Indian screen. Those contrived scenes that come towards the end till the big National flag waving will make audience more uncomfortable than patriotic because of the cheesy way those scenes were conceived.

Allu Arjun in his last few movies began looking like a likable actor. But in this movie he crosses the border(the hypothetical one not the LOC, the character Surya can't wait to go to) of hamming away in a role he did not do enough homework on. Songs are a big letdown, lover also fighter also being the biggest. Iraga iraga is a saving grace. Sainika song looked so artificial and confusing. It was as if the makers were confused whether to focus on Army as a whole or just Bunny as a soldier.

Naa peru Surya could have been a very different movie in hands of an able director and with more sincere acting effort from Allu Arjun. More focus should have been put on building Surya's role than just making him smoke cigars and pose like a nice poster boy.
