Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Oru Nalla Naal Paathu Solren - Review

From the posters and trailer it was evident that ONNPS is an outlandish dark comedy and if there were ever was anyone who could pull this off, it is definitely Vijay Sethupathy. And he almost pulls it off too.

The movie starts off on very uninteresting narration. Sethupathy tries to light up the screen here and there and succeeds. Gowtham tries to set it on fire but falls flat. Niharika has nothing much to do in the first half. The movie actually starts when it shifts to Yamasingapuram. Firstly no Telugu names use Singa, it should have been Simha but again, its an outlandish comedy and so it's fine. There are few hilarious episodes in second half that save the movie from being hated totally. Sethupathy looks totally in command of the proceedings. Watch out for his Telugu dialogues and dance steps for the famous "Bangaru kodi petta" song. It is totally whistle-worthy. Niharika gets next big role and especially in second half where she scores some points. Gowtham in second half plays the comic role very well. But Gayathrie is wasted in a role that just has one dialogue as Sowmya played by Niharika rightly points out. Rest of the cast are all decent.

Overall this is a very bizarre comedy that works in parts and especially in second half.
