Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Oopiri review

The Intouchables is a classic as far as French are concerned. That might be for various reasons. One of them being that its a real life story based out of there. But I was very skeptical about it's adaptation for Telugu/Tamil audience. The original is very subtly emotional and we here prefer melodrama. Oopiri succeeds to an extent in its able adaptation. I should say, as per our tastes, it is better than the original. But my major complaint about this one or the original is that they could not hit that note which Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara could. They don't culminate to a realization effectively.

Negatives aside, Oopiri has its brightest moments. All actors perform well. Nagarjuna's role is physically challenging but acting wise it is a cake walk for him. Karthi excelled in his role and he is the "celebration" part in the tagline "Celebration of life". Tamannah, Jayasudha and Prakash raj were apt. Cameos help a bit. Music is okay. Production values are top notch. I would say watch it for that if not anything. Overall it is a very feel good narrative that helps you ease your stresses a bit with not much melodrama but with nothing to carry home as well. I should add that Nag's lucky phase is continuing and he needs to be commended for picking different yet working scripts.
