Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. August: Osage County - Review

Read the names of the cast and tell me if you can stop yourself from watching this and that too if one of them is your favorite. Mine is Julia Roberts. Before starting the movie, I was totally convinced that Meryl Streep is gonna stomp every actor in the frame including Julia Roberts. But thankfully, though Meryl got a role with good scope for acting, Julia had the author backed role. Hers is the role that holds the whole setup together. There is no story to the movie. All the kids of a couple come together for their father's last rites and how everyone in the family is going through the worst phases of their life is the point. There is no happy ending for anyone in this. The plot points aka the problems of the family are very cliched but we have not seen all of them in one movie like this. All the actors did pretty well. Meryl Streep kind of goes over board sometimes but she conveyed very well, the part of a volatile mother who is fierce at times and in need of a shoulder at times. Julia Roberts comes next(as expected) with one of her best performances in a role that needed her to convey her problems, show that she is still strong and torn between the two worlds of present life and past life. She grabs all the sympathy in the movie. Watch it if you are in the mood for some no point family drama with pretty good acting from the two top actors of Hollywood.
