Suicide Squad 2 - Movie Review

Streaming: HBOMAX Suicide Squad 1 was one of the finest DC movies(Minus Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy) to come out from their camp. Do not go by the reviews. It was so well received that Harley Quinn had her own movie. Now cut to Suicide Squad 2 with the famous James Gunn from Marvel camp at the helm, it barely meets the expectations.  Marvel made it seem so easy to write a super hero movie in super entertaining fashion with movies like Winter Soldier, Thor Ragnorak, Guardians of the Galaxy etc. But DC thought all they needed was the guy who directed Guardians to sell Suicide Squad. Oh my oh my how they were wrong. In one phrase, Suicide Squad is a gross mess that shines few times and far in between. Suicide Squad is no Guardians, not even close. The screenplay is messy. The visuals are gross but it aint Kill Bill. Kill Bill romanticizes with violence but Suicide Squad tries to romanticize with gross elements. To say the least, it doesn't work in favor of the movie. Idris Elba is...

DevaDas - Review

Bhale Manchi Roju and Samanthakamani established Sriram Aditya as a technically skilled director. With DevaDas, he steps up his game to make a complete family entertainer. He is successful to an extent, thanks to his skill in shot making and also to the beautiful packaging of the movie.

DevaDas is a very beautiful movie. Everyone looks dapper, sets look grand, art direction is spot on, colors are pleasing and the actors good looking. The movie has a very simple story that has scope for good comedy, some romance and some emotion. What works most for the movie is the chemistry between Nag and Nani. Their funny scenes look so cute, their confrontation scene reminds us of the strong actors they are and their dances together are total fun. The movie fails to utilize the emotional part completely. It is conceived well but looks rushed in execution.

Coming to the actors, Nag always looked like a million bucks even in his biggest flops but here he looks like a billion bucks, may be inflation(bad joke !) He is made for this role and acts with ease. Lakumikara/Ganesh Festival song is going to be a huge delight for fans and normal audience alike. The song is picturized well and choreographed well too. Nani once again proves why he is a charmer that he is. Be prepared to fall in love with his cute portrayal of Das a.k.a Gold. He is the gold in the movie and of the movie. Both Rashmika and Akanksha did good in their roles. There are some twists in their roles. Rest of the cast is apt. Kunal Kapoor looked nice but is under-utilized.

Coming to the songs, all of them are very well made meeting the standards of Vyjayanti banner. Vaaru Veeru is another treat to see on big screen. Music by Mani Sharma is another major plus both in songs and his industry best rated BGM. Cinematography, art department and costumes department all deserve appreciation for making this movie look so beautiful and nice on screen. If only the writing team had polished some rough edges, this would have been a master piece almost on the lines of Munnabhai.

Overall, DevaDas is a pure popcorn entertainer that makes sure you walk out of the theater laughing. Do not expect any award worthy or game changing stuff in this one.
